As our kids grow older, the prospect of schooling starts looming on the horizon. Should our children be educated at home, go to a private or a public school? It’s a nightmarish question for so many of us because we ourselves had a terrible experience during the ‘golden’ years of school. So it comes as a fresh break to learn there are schools like the Toddy Pond School.

The Toddy Pond School was formed exactly by parents worried by the state of conventional schooling. Back in 1979 a group of parents from Belfast, Maine, started a school that was different from other schools. Twenty three years later the educational establishment is still going strong and prospering. This school is different in many ways. First of all, it is experimental in essence and all the state-certified teachers here embrace new and fresh ideas in education. The classes here are small (twelve students maximum) and it is possible to pay equal attention and respect to all the children in the class. Individual approach to each student is the basic philosophy of the Toddy Pond School. Project-based creative approach to learning makes the educational process stress-free and fun. Isn’t that what all of us dream of for our children?
